August 19 – YOUTH KNOWS NO PAIN
DIR: Mitch McCabe
FEATURING Mitch McCabe, Sherry Mecom, Norman Deesing, Julia Allison, Gary Baldassarre, Dr. Franklin Rose, Erica Rose, Lyndsay Bertie, Dr. Lisa Airan, Paula Begoun, Dr. Bobby Buka, Dr. Fredric Brandt, Dr. Adrienne Denese, Simon Doonan, Robert Grant, Erika Kawalek, Joan Kron, Charla Krupp, Dr. Zein Obagi, Dr. Nicholas Perricone, Linda Wells, Dr. Anthony Youn
Straight from AFI-Discovery Channel SILVERDOCS and Cinevegas, is HBO Documentary Films’ YOUTH KNOWS NO PAIN, a documentary that follows filmmaker Mitch McCabe, the age-obsessed daughter of a plastic surgeon, as she takes a journey through America’s $60 billion a year anti-aging world. For two years, McCabe traveled across America, visiting doctors and beauty experts, and living with a cross-section of characters from Minnesota to Texas who are attempting to “beat the clock” and stay forever young. It’s an intense and exhaustive journey, and when it comes to an end, one wonders whether the filmmaker herself hasn’t been seduced by youth.
A Q&A with filmmaker Mitch McCabe and some of the featured documentary subjects will immediately follow the screening.

Bernardo Bertolucci’s THE CONFORMIST
Rian Johnson presents Bernardo Bertolucci’s THE CONFORMIST, adapted from the novel by Alberto Moravia, and featuring the cinematography of the great Vittorio Storaro, chronicles the desperate quest to belong by a bourgeois Italian during the fascism of the 1930s. Jean-Louis Trintignant slyly portrays ‘Marcello Clerici,’ a man fearful of his identity—both socially and sexually—whose maniacal obsession with normality leads him to fascist politics, an ill-fated marriage, a spectacularly dangerous affair and the betrayal of a mentor.
A Q&A with Rian Johnson precedes the screening of the film.
CINEMA’S LEGACY – JUNE 9 (at 7:30PM)
George Stevens Jr. presents:
George Stevens’ THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK
Originally released in 1959, nominated for eight Oscars® and winning three, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK remains one of cinema’s most astounding and enduring treasures. Following the Nazi invasion of Amsterdam, 13-year-old Anne and her family go into hiding in the confines of an attic. Anne’s remarkable account of their lives, their growing fear of discovery, their deplorable living conditions and even the blooming of her first love are intimately portrayed in this extraordinary portrait of humanity.
To mark the 50th Anniversary, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has worked closely with George Stevens, Jr., to share the cinematic legacy of his father’s remarkable film.
A conversation and Q&A with George Stevens, Jr., Millie Perkins and Diane Baker will precede the screening of the film.

EVERY LITTLE STEP
2008 96 MIN 35MM Rated PG-13
DIR: James Stern and Adam Del Deo
When the original stage production of A Chorus Line made its debut, in the wake of Vietnam and Watergate, it injected into the fractured landscape a heartbreaking saga of the underappreciated and the overlooked, in the guise of dancers auditioning for their chance to dance in a Broadway musical.
EVERY LITTLE STEP explores the incredible journey of the original show from ambitious idea to international phenomenon, while following the extensive audition process for a 2006 revival of A Chorus Line on Broadway. The film captures the intimate and grueling behind-the-scenes moments—actors suffering emotional breakdowns, dancers executing the most exquisite pirouettes of their lives, and directors moved to tears by a new delivery of a line they’ve heard a thousand times before.
A Q&A with directors James Stern and Adam Del Deo will immediately follow the screening.

April 16 -
THE GARDEN
2008 80 MIN 35MM Not Rated
DIR: Scott Hamilton Kennedy
FEATURING: Danny Glover, Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, Daryl Hannah, Dennis Kucinich, Zak de la Rocha
THE GARDEN is an engaging and powerful look at the famous political and social battle over the largest community garden in the US located in South Central Los Angeles.
A follow-up to Kennedy’s award-winning documentary, OT: OUR TOWN, the film shows how the politics of power and greed (backroom deals, land developing, green politics, money) tragically intersect with working class families who rely on this communal garden for their livelihood. Equal parts THE WIRE and HARLAN COUNTY, USA, THE GARDEN, exposes the fault lines in American society and raises crucial and challenging questions about liberty, equality and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable among us.
THE GARDEN was a 2008 Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary Feature.
A Q&A with director Scott Hamilton Kennedy will immediately follow the screening.
